Timex is making a comeback. That’s right, one of the most affordable watch brands is beginning to make a name for itself in not only for price but also for style. In this list of why Timex is cool again expect to see NATO straps, reissues, and some of the newest additions to our collection.
1. Too Affordable
Ask yourself how much you would pay for the following watch:
The Camper MK1, a reissue of the model from the 80s, this watch was used by the US Army because of it’s functionality and reliability. Features a Military Grosgrain strap; 30 meters water resistance; and a full NATO strap.
We’re sure you’ll agree that this is a great looking watch. If you’re into you’re watches, you probably wouldn’t choose this to be your go-to watch, but is perfect for vacations, work, or the outdoors, when you don’t want to risk damaging your best watch.
The watch sells for £54.99, and is available in black, blue, or brown.
Available from the Timex website here.
2. You can Customise
A great new feature by Timex is the option to be able to customise your watch. While this is limited to seven popular models, there is no doubt that you’ll be able to find something to suit your style. The customiser allows you to select the watch’s face, case, strap, and even to have an engraving on the reverse, making it a great choice whether you want to create a unique gift, or get your watch just how you like it.
The one shown to the left is a Waterbury Date 40 that we have customised and is priced at £95. You can customise your Timex here.
If you’re more interested some some of the more retro Timex models, there is a separate customiser where you can match different Archive models with straps that wouldn’t usually be available. Customise the Archive range here.
3. NATO Straps Are In
Although this looks like another reissue, don’t be deceived. Despite being based on the traditional Ivy-league preppy style, this is in fact a brand new watch released by Timex.
Inspired by traditional college ties: One of its most interesting features its unique asymmetric NATO strap. The strap is reversible showing a plain green stap on the other side, and has also been specially treated to look well aged and worn, without looking dirty or shabby.
An injection of classic style, and at £110 the Whitney Avenue is an ideal gift for a student. Available in green, red, and beige/green from the Timex website here.
4. The Marlin
If you’re a regular MAVRCK reader, you’ll know that we’re big fans of the Marlin. If not, you can read our article on it here.
The Marlin is a reissue of a watch produced by Timex in the 60s. I’m sure that you’ll agree with us that it’s a beautiful watch, but look past it’s art deco styling and you’ll find a hand-wound mechanical movement and a domed saphire-crystal window. In short, it’s a watch that commands respect, and is attracting a lot of attention, due in part to its price point at £175. Find it here.
5. Military Style
The Timex Navi Ocean is quite possibly the most stylish watches being brought forward by Timex at the moment. Showcasing a classic military style, the Navi Ocean is an excellent alternative to your conventional dive watch.
This model features a genuine leather NATO strap stonewashed in Italy; date window; stainless steel case; and water resistance to 100 meters.
At £119, this watch is by no means the cheapest on this list, but is one of the most interesting, and the one that we would add to our collection first. Find it here.
